Mortality displayed a notable divergence (35% vs 17%; aRR, 207; 95% CI, 142-3020; P < .001). The study period encompassed 120 patients (70% male; mean age, 58 ± 13 years) who required emergent repair for acute type I aortic dissections. Forty-one patients, representing 34% of the total, experienced acute ischemic complications. The study identified 22 (18%) patients with leg ischemia, 9 (8%) patients with acute stroke, 5 (4%) patients with mesenteric ischemia, and 5 (4%) patients with arm ischemia. Twelve patients (10 percent) experienced persistent ischemia following their proximal aortic repair procedure. Seven patients experienced persistent leg ischemia, one had intestinal gangrene, and one patient required a craniotomy due to cerebral edema; these nine patients (eight percent) required additional interventions.
